Couch to 5K first attempt: foiled.

While on my vacation this summer I managed to put on a few too many vacation pounds...probably has nothing to do with all of the scones, or the dinners/breakfasts/lunches/snacks with family either. Couldn't.

Danni had talked about starting a Couch to 5K to get herself working out again too. I thought this sounded like a pretty good idea...I definitely needed to do something! When I got back to Arkansas (read: lowlands...also read: sauna) I started jogging with Katie the very next morning. The intervals were nice/terrible all at the same time. The road we were on was straight...but had a lot of hills (which started giving my calves issues.)

When I got to Crossett I started jogging at the track down at the football field. It was soooo much nicer not having hills, but not as much fun because no longer had Katie to entertain me. :) I have been super faithful to keep up with the program, even after having to repeat a whole week because I was unable to finish one day and I was rained out another.

So here I was, six weeks of jogging under my shoes...and school starts. I've been on my feet more than usual and I started feeling it in my knees and ankles. Now, seven days of school have passed, and I've been unable to jog the entire time. My ankles are swollen and sore, but not like a sprain. I've been talking to the school nurse and she has convinced me to stay off of them (I would really rather run, but I'm getting too old to push through the pain when I know there's something wrong.) I didn't want to go to the Doc for him to tell me to stay off of it, so I did a little self-diagnosing via the internet...and found that I've most likely managed to develop tendinitis. Jeez Louise. And of course, REST is the main treatment. Along with physical therapy. :( The good news is: I can still ride my bike! I'm going to start riding to work tomorrow! Maybe now I can get away from the pity party I've been throwing myself for the last week; there was even ice cream! (A whole half-gallon: gone.)

Starting tomorrow I'm back on the healthy/weight loss wagon. I wonder if I'll have to start over at the beginning of the C25K when I'm able to run again...that would stink. :P Prayers for a speedy recovery would be much appreciated!

I'll stop whining now,
Love you all!

And after a week of riding my bike and feeling good again...I got a cold. :( I'm feeling better now, so starting this next week, back on the bike! (weather permitting)
