I've been cleaning out my spare closet today in order to consolidate my classroom things and to toss and organize the rest. My closet is looking pretty good, I have a bunch of empty boxes sitting in my living room that I need to break down, and my art room is an absolute mess. Wait...what?!?! Yeah. It is pretty disgusting. While cleaning and consolidating I would just take things out of boxes that I knew I could give a home and put them in a certain spot (pile) until I could get them to the place they will live. I originally started with the intention of going through one box and making sure everything was in its place before opening the next box. Note to self: this only works when the room is clean to begin with! Ha! The good news is, I consolidated all of my classroom stuff to 4 or 5 boxes, found a bunch of old pictures and post cards, and rewarded myself with ice cream. :-)
There are times where I really believe I am OCD. I like for everything to have a home and for it to be put back in its home when I am through with it. I like labels (a lot), individual boxes or containers for things, I like things in alphabetical order...or color coded....or organized by type....or size...or usefulness....or frequency of use....And that's where it gets complicated. The artsy side of me takes over and wants things to look pretty or something. Whatever is going on in my brain, I couldn't actually put into words. All I know is that I have somewhere in the ballpark of 10 bazillion ideas for how things should be organized...and I apparently attempt all of them!
I blame my parents for the confusion. Dad is the technical one, and Mom is the artsy one. I'm such a good combo of both of them that I am completely confounded any time I try to organize anything. ;-) But to be honest...I love it. It means I'm constantly trying new things to find something that works. One of these days I'll come across something that is perfect for me. (Or maybe two or three things.) In the meantime...it's back to work on the mess I made!
