I couldn't justify a trip out West without taking Linda to Arctic Circle and showing her where Fry Sauce comes from. :) Ever since we moved to Arkansas we have been on the receiving end of all kinds of facial expressions and hearing "Ewww! What is THAT?", every time we make Fry Sauce. Most people don't believe that you can actually get it in a restaurant. After much coaxing many of the Eww-sayers have been converted. I can't tell you the amount of people who are now spreading this delicacy to their friends and family in AR. hehe
We took a little drive out to Antelope Island and did some walking around. The beauty of the desert will never be lost on me. I've always been amazed by the mountains and desert and how an area that seems so barren actually holds so much beauty and life.
We looked and looked for buffalo (bison...technical term...) and this is all we found.
Not quite what we were expecting...but pretty sweet for the Art Teachers!
Day 11 - Leaving the Wasatch Front, heading to Bryce Canyon
Linda relaxing before we left...she had company. :)
Love you Grandma!
Love you Grandpa!
Leaving is always so hard. Never again will I wait that long to go visit. I can't even seem to pin down exactly when it was I was out there last. Too long ago. (So excited to be coming back again this summer!!!!)
Off to Bryce Canyon....goodbye Wasatch Front!
I don't remember much of the drive down to Bryce Canyon, at this point. I should have at least journaled about the whole trip instead of just the first few days. That would definitely make things easier. (Or if I had blogged sooner, huh Grandma?) :)
What I do remember once we got there....lets see. It seems like Ruby's runs the place. Everywhere you turn before you actually make it in the park there is a Ruby's something-or-other. We camped at...Ruby's! (It was the cheapest and closest.) It didn't take us long to set up camp. I'm pretty handy with things...although I like to be left alone until I ask for help. I'm a grouch like that. Just leave me to do it and everything will be fine. Haha We set up camp and had dinner (we brought groceries...sooooo much cheaper.) It got dark not too long after dinner, but neither of us was ready to go to bed just yet. We realized that we didn't bring a lantern of any sort. I brought a couple of different flashlights, including the headlight from my bicycle. This is what we came up with. MacGyver would be proud. :)
Allergy meds box + Walmart pharmacy bag + small headlight = very useful camping lamp.
It was cold that night...luckily I had brought a blanket, warm clothes and a heavy sleeping bag. We could hear the coyotes howling half the night...they were very close. I'm used to hearing coyotes at home, but this was a little creepy because we were, well...in a tent. I'm pretty sure coyotes don't generally attack people in a tent though. lol
